Francis “Tank” Sinatra

Race: Human
Class: Fighter (1st Level)
Background: Folk Hero (or Farmhand)
Alignment: Neutral Good
Hometown: Village of Hommlet

Backstory:

Life in Hommlet is quiet. Peaceful. Predictable. For Francis Sinatra, the sixth of eleven children, it’s also chaotic and cramped. Overshadowed by his older siblings and trampled by the younger ones, Francis—nicknamed "Tank" by his brothers after he bowled through the pantry door as a toddler—grew up feeling like the forgotten fork at the dinner table.

His father, Dorn Sinatra, is a retired mercenary turned carrot farmer who still swings a hoe like it owes him money. Between lessons in fencing and fence-mending, Dorn passed down bits of martial wisdom: how to hold a sword, how to take a hit, and, most importantly, how to get up after being knocked down.

His mother, Maelya, keeps the household and half the village’s children in line with nothing more than a wooden spoon and a steely glare. From her, Tank learned agility—not on the battlefield, but dodging discipline in a full house with short hallways.

While his brothers chased fame or priesthood, and his sisters earned favor in the temple choir or with sweet rolls, Tank trained in secret with a dull blade in the barn, narrating imaginary duels with great flourish and very little accuracy.

Though often dismissed as just another Sinatra, Tank earned small coin and growing respect by venturing alone to the ruined Moathouse just beyond the village. There, he collects rare herbs, mushrooms, and strange roots for Hommlet’s local baker, who insists they “add a kick to the crust.” What started as a chore has become Tank’s unofficial proving ground—and perhaps the beginning of something bigger.

He’s not out to conquer the world. Just earn a name. And maybe a bunk of his own.

Appearance:

Tank is stout, wide-shouldered, and perpetually ruddy-faced, with a deep farmer’s tan and the build of a walking root cellar. His armor is mismatched and slightly too small, his sword is older than he is, and he’s nearly always smiling—even if he doesn’t quite know what’s going on.

Personality Traits:

  • Endearingly earnest and wildly overconfident.

  • Thinks “strategy” means “try harder next time.”

  • Occasionally narrates his own life out loud.

Ideal:

“You don’t have to be fancy to be a hero. You just have to show up swinging.

Bond:

Keeps his father’s old mercenary badge in a pouch around his neck. He believes it’s proof that greatness runs in the blood—even if it skipped a few generations.

Flaw:

He takes any insult to his pride personally—especially if someone calls him “just a farmer” or “one of the Sinatras.”

Companion:

Tank’s closest friend is Sammael Davos II, a young bard with a flair for performance and a pair of enchanted tap shoes. Sammael’s wide eyes, rapid feet, and sharp wit perfectly balance Tank’s steady feet and slower thinking. The two are often seen around town—Tank carrying a sword, Sammael carrying the show.

Adventure Hook (Centered on Hommlet):

Tank makes regular forays into the Moathouse ruins to harvest rare ingredients for the village baker. Rumors have begun to spread of strange lights and distant howls from the lower chambers. One day, the baker offers double coin for a peculiar purple fungus found only deep within the ruin’s collapsed storerooms.

With Sammael tapping out a rhythm on overturned barrels to “keep morale up,” Tank grabs his sword and sets out—because someone’s gotta protect the bread supply.
